      above the bridge. I enjoyed my tour of the NAVY on the Rosie and as others
      have said, "I wouldn't trade to for a million dollar ." I might have
      bitched at the time, but as I reminisce, I think what a great experience I
      had. If only today's kids had such an opportunity. I have lots of photos
      of flight ops, and even some photos someplace of the Russian ships that
      were around when we were in the Med. I took the photos of the Russian
      ships through the range finder in the foward director. Well, I hope that I
      hear from some of you FOX Div. Sailors of that period.

      Home port Jacksonville, Fla. Lrft for Med. Sept.1967, return May 68
      Norfolk Naval Ship yards for an overhaul for a year. I got out Aug. 1969
      just before she left for the Med. I was an Interior Communications
      Electrician. We took care of all the sound powered phones, the dial
      phones,gyro compass, showed all movies on board,intercom units,announcing
      systems,amplifiers and alarms. Always enjoyed watching "flight ops"
      especially at night. Did my K.P. duty as soon as I got aboard on the "Dry
      Break Out" crew. We had to get the dry goods (all the canned stuff, sugar,
      flour, etc.) from the holds down below. One morning while in one of these
      holds, there were alot of kerosene fumes. some one had removed an access
      lid to a JP-5 fuel tank and then covered the hole with a piece of
      cardboard. I stepped on the card board and fell two decks into a ladder
      well. Landed with one leg in the JP-5 tank. Took 5 or 6 stiches in the
      head, sore but very lucky. Hated being there at the time, but sure miss
      it, and the great friends once you got out. Because of the Navy training,
      i became an electrician and now work for General Motors. I could go on
      but...
